A weekend of fun for the whole family.

The Junior Highland Games has been organised to allow children between the ages of 5 and 18 the opportunity to participate in games events normally reserved for adults and hopefully create interest for the future generations. The emphasis is on fun and is intended to provide educational experiences in an informal and participative way. The event will be held in the Braemar Games Field and has the backing of the Braemar Royal Highland Society.

Children will be able to participate as well as receive education and instruction in a number of traditional highland games events overseen by qualified instructors. This is a fantastic opportunity to get children from your school involved in what is a unique activity within Scotland.

The events include

Highland Dancing - Competitions will be held in age group categories. Also Instruction on the dancing basics will be available to new or would be dancers.

Solo Piping - A junior solo piping competition will be held for the more experienced pipers. Chanters and bagpipes will be available for novices to have a try working alongside qualified instructors who will provide advice and help.

Drumming - A solo drumming competition. Open to all up to the age of 19 years. There will be an opportunity for anyone under this age to try the drums.

Tug O War - We invite teams to participate in this event in age groups up to 17 year olds

Tossing the Caber, Hammer throwing etc - Replica plastic equipment will be used to match age and ability. Experts will be on hand to demonstrate and instruct in this area.
